en  During my stay at golf du Médoc Resort and golf de Margaux, I didn't hesitate to visit the charming medieval village, Saint-Emilion. The village is located in the heart of the famous Bordeaux vineyards, 40 minutes from Bordeaux. Famous for its wine properties, the village also has an undeniable attraction for its architecture and its monuments.
Saint-Emilion and its vineyard derive their originality from the limestone which has shaped its identity. From the 9th to the 19th century, men wanted to extract the rock to build the architectural ensemble of the city. This is evidenced by the presence of 200 km of underground galleries which provided the limestone necessary for the construction of several buildings in the region, particularly in Bordeaux. Limestone is omnipresent and provides an exceptional soil for the vines of Saint-Emilion.
Saint-Emilion also owes its exceptional fame to its great diversity of terroirs. The variety of its wines is explained by a remarkable geological diversity (limestone, clay-limestone, gravelly and sandy soil) and a microclimate perfectly suited to viticulture. This combination, combined with the meticulous care given to the vines by professionals, provides ideal conditions for the nutrition and maturity of Merlot, the dominant grape variety. Indeed, the variety of Saint-Emilion wines can also be explained by a clever blend of grape varieties (majority Merlot associated with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, or even Malbec) which allows them to flourish in a palette of olfactory nuances. and taste particularly appreciated.
Do not hesitate to stroll through the small streets where at each crossroad you will find a shop where you can taste with good professionnal advice and buy some delicious bottles of grand cru.
