musée LaM

This exhibition treats Simon Hantaï, Martin Barré, Marc Devade and Michel Parmentier, five remarkable figures in French painting who would appear to have little in common. Indeed, each of these artists managed to free himself from the major abstract movements in modern and contemporary art in order to establish his own way.
Each artist is shown in a separate room, where a specific moment in his career as an artist is represented – a moment when everything previously acquired was voluntarily called into question in an attempt to redefine the very idea of a painting without rejecting it.
