The History Trail
The Somme was heavily affected by the fighting in the First World War: the August invasion and the ‘race to the sea’ of September 1914, the Battle of the Somme of July-November 1916, and the Battles of Picardy from March to September 1918. Today, this colourful page in the region’s history can be discovered by following the History Trail, studded by frequently very impressive memorials, remnants of battles and cemeteries.
