Braderie de Lille

3/09/11 -> 4/09/11

Lille Braderie: the first weekend in September. Each year the Braderie gets bigger and bigger, covering more and more kilometres of streets, with everyone trying to sell off what they have in their loft or cellar. Hundreds of thousands of people are out and about all day and night, strolling around, hunting for bargains and eating the ubiquitous mussels and chips among the piles of empty shells heaped up outside the restaurants following the timeless tradition of the Braderie... This is without doubt Europe's biggest flea market, where everything and anything can be bought or sold. Its history goes back to the Middle Ages, when once a year servants had the right to sell off their masters' old clothes and other items.

4/11/11 -> 6/02/12

This exhibition, the first ever international retrospective of Louis-Léopold Boilly's work, commemorates the 250th anniversary of the artist's birth (1761 - 1845). Originally from northern France, Boilly was among the most original artists in 18th and 19th-century in France.
