Designed and produced by the Arab Wold Institute (IMA) for the French people taking part, Bonaparte's expedition to Egypt between 1798 and 1801 was a real culture shock. The historical and heritage riches of the country became a great source of inspiration for the artists and scientists of the 19th century the myth and reality of Egypt fascinated the French and became fashionable. In addition, profitable trade was established between these 2 nations wich, at the time, were in the throes of cultural, economic and artistic change. A high point in these relations was when Egypt took part in the Paris exhibitions of 1867, where it affirmed its status as a major independant state.
